This week, let's discuss a new function in Microsoft 365: FILTER.

FILTER is a function that allows you to write formulas to perform filtering and searching for data, especially from your data sheet.

Everyone knows how to use the "Filter" feature in Excel: applying filters, searching by keywords, checking items, clicking OK, releasing the "Filter" again, clicking other fields. That's not difficult but rather tedious and boring.

Try this new method to explore your data.

FIVE key applications:

1. Filter and return a range based on an exact value in a particular column

2. Filter and return a range based on 'Keywords' in a particular column (nested with ISNUMBER and SEARCH functions).

3. Incorporate Point 2 along with dynamic field selection (nested with CHOOSECOLUMN and MATCH).

4.  Filter and return a range based on a numeric criterion. For example, Sales QTY < 100.

5. Filter and return a range using multiple criteria. This could involve more than one criterion, such as 'Sales QTY < 100' and 'Month = Jan.

However, FILTER function is much powerful than you think. 

There are a huge possbility while nesting FILTER with other new functions. Learn the basic first, I'll share more in the upcoming newsletter.
